Rebuilt Dodge HD NV4500. NO CORE CHARGE. Has 5th gear upgrade - fully splined mainshaft and new updated nut to handle 5th gear problem. Also comes with new input, 5th gear and counter shaft. These are the parts required to convert the 23 spline NP205 supplied with the automatic to 29 spline for added strength. Recommended.
OPTION: 29 Spl NP205 Input Gear w/ new (larger) bearing. NP205 Main Case will need to be machined to receive the larger input bearing used with the 29 spline input gear - $155

Note: Spacer housing on front of 205 will need to be machined to fit new larger F seal and fit over the new larger input bearing. This casting was not really intended to fit this larger seal, but it can be done and does work. Output seal in NV4500 will not be used, the 205 F seal must be installed to avoid transfer of lubricant between transmission and transfer case.

Installation & Application Notes:

NV4500 Replacing an Automatic Transmission:

The package above forms a system is designed to replace an automatic transmission Behind a Cummins Diesel. All of the major components needed are supplied for this conversion, with the exception of the clutch pedal assembly.

Clutch Pedal assembly

These parts are available from the dealer, or if you prefer, a junkyard. You will want the stock bracket, pedals and linkage components from your same-year stick-equipped vehicle. The master cylinder we supply will fit this assembly. If desired for convenience, we can attempt to source these parts from a dealer, however most likely at a higher cost than you can buy them direct from the dealer.

4WD applications

Dodge Cummins Trucks with auto transmissions: were supplied with a 23 spline input on the transfer case. All of the Factory Dodge Cummins 5 speed applications were 29 spline into the transfer case. The 29 spline shaft is stronger than the 23 spl shaft, and the auto trans with the torque converter does tend to cushion the output of the trans from the heavy torque pulses generated by the Cummins diesel

We can supply the NV4500 in the package with the 23 spl output shaft which will directly fit your transfer case. DO NOT DO THIS: The 23 spl shaft fatigues, behind the Cummins, and fails after a while

Bulletin: The 23 spl shaft does not reliably live behind the Cummins without the cushioning effect of the torque converter. To perform this conversion properly, it is necessary to convert your T-case to 29 spl

NP241 or 271: All we would need to change is the input gear and bearing – $145.

Drive Shaft(s)

You may need to have your driveshaft(s) modified for length. A local driveshaft shop is usually available to do this.

Stick Shift

It will be necessary to cut a hole in your floorboard to accommodate the stick shift. A simple boot can be mounted over the hole to dress this.

Starter :

You will need to obtain a new starter from a 1994-2003 vehicle.

2WD Applications

The  NV4500 are standardly supplied with a Dodge style slip yoke, and provisions for a choice of mechanical or electrical speedo, as needed for your application.

Drive Shaft(s)

You may need to have your driveshaft(s) modified for length. A local driveshaft shop is usually available to do this.

Stick Shift

It will be necessary to cut a hole in your floorboard to accommodate the stick shift. A simple boot can be mounted over the hole to dress this.

Starter :

You will need to obtain a new starter from a 1994-2003 vehicle.
